History of Linda Hancock Hines by Granddaughter Minnie
PERSONAL HISTORY OF LINDA HANCOCK HINES MCKINNEY
Linda Hancock Hines was born Oct 1865 (per 1900 census) in Perryville, Arkansas to John William Hines and Ann Hancock. She died 1836 about age 65 while living with her youngest son Virgil McKinney of Ralston, Okla. She was buried in the Cyclone Cemetery (now called Pixley , near the Bend not far from Ralston, Okla.
She was living in Perryville, Arkansas at age of 16 years when she married Sam Adalaski Mckinney, from Indiana. She ran off with Sam at age 16, he was 22, and were married in Perryville maybe, but for sure married somewhere in Arkansas.
Sam Adalaski, her husband called her “LIN” or “LYNN”.
Linda was small of stature, dark complexion, long wavy black hair, large brown eyes (dark brown eyes), speech was fairly fast. She was a gentle, kind person until you pushed her too far, then you had a fight on your hands, she really talked fast and held her own with whoever!
Minnie Lee, a daughter said Linda could not write or spell anything. Minnie could not understand this because her parents were not poor people and could have afforded to send her to school. Linda attended the church on Brushy Mountain, which was Protestant. She cooked, canned, could sew, liked music and loved to dance.
Memories of Minnie McKinney Deatherage as recorded by her daughter Evelyn in 1982
