Grandma Dooley by Glenn

Hi All:
I recall Grandma always having time to sing with me (and probably everyone else). I don’t remember her ever being sick. However, I can only recall specifically, one time being in the kitchen with Grandma while she was cooking. It is possible that I could have the singing of “Blueberry Hill” confused with Aunt Hazel. Hazel and I reminisced about that being a song she and I had sung at an earlier age, when I last talked with her at the Billings reunion.

I don’t recall anyone, either being or saying a mean word. All my aunts, uncles and cousins were more than just good to me. I do recall a redheaded man (maybe Freeman) who sounded mean and cussed a lot. But, don’t think he was family. We moved to Kansas on my eighth birthday (Feb 44) and I rarely saw any of the family after that. I think I recall her being in a TB sanatorium (quarantined maybe). I did attend her funeral in about 1953 or 54. Ralph’s twins were crawling in-out of the lectern at the church (Belford)?
I wonder if Hilary saw the picture of  Paris’s Dad & Mom? Their shoes were so bad that a little kid would think they were mean. He has a bible and she is looking at him instead of the camera. I suppose a degree of meanness was necessary back them. Anyway, I don’t recall ever seeing a picture of Paris & Effie together or her at all. Gail and/or Les & Corrine may have one. I would think Grandma & Aunt Mag were pretty close to clones.

Les has a much better recall of our childhood than I.  Hope he will correct any misconceptions I have listed. Of course I can’t dispute anything he says about things he recalls from age two or three.
I used a lot of words to say very little. Probably the short version is that we didn’t spend much time with her because there were so many kids that they could only let us in the house to eat & sleep. Seems like the bedrooms were like a barracks, but not bad.
Love You All,
Glenn
