Linda Hines’s father was John Hines (Hindes or Hynes) born in North Caroline about 1812 according to the 1850 census.  He had a wife Paulina and several children.  He had an 82 year old John F. Hines born in Prussia living in the same household in 1850.  This was possibly his father or grandfather.  He had 9 children with Paulina.  Several of the childen listed were mentioned by Minnie as Linda’s half-siblings.

The 1870 census listed Ann as the wife. Linda was listed as Melinda.  She was listed as Malinda on the 1880 census

Walter Ross, town officer of Ralston may go to trial charged with manslaughter in the killing of Jim Dooley. His trial is set for Monday. Ross shot and killed Dooley and wounded his brother Bryce (Brice) Dooley, in a beer place in Ralston the night of Saturday, Oct. 30, 1948.

Ross told officers that he was called to the place to quiet a disturbance and was attacked by the Dooley brothers, whose home was across the Arkansas river in the Big Bend country of Osage county. He shot the two, he said in resisting the attack. Ross has been free on bond since a few days after the killing.

The above was verbatim from a newspaper clipping dated 1-27-1949. agr

Jim Dooley was killed on Saturday, October 30 at a bar in Ralston, Oklahoma

Bud Miller said that Grandma Dooley was at a church service across the street from the bar where Jim was killed.  When she heard the gunshots she screamed “My boys” .

There was a trial for the police officer who shot Jim.  He was accquited .  Grandma Dooley went to every day of the trial even though it was held in the middle of winter with lots of ice.

The death date on his tombstone is actually the date he was buried as Grandpa Dooley did not want a Halloween reminder on his tombstone.
